Jane Dudman and Whitehaven School

Artist Jane Dudman and Elaine Lane, head of art at Whitehaven School, describe a residency they collaborated on in 2003-4.

The project was a joint venture between Copeland Borough Council?s Arts Development department, the Beacon Museum & Gallery in Whitehaven, Netherhall School and Whitehaven School.

Jane worked with staff and students to explore the industrial and social history of Whitehaven and surrounding area, focusing on the de-commissioning of the Marchon chemical works. The project also involved a performance artist, Mary Clay, whose movement and dance work inspired, and was inspired by, drawings, photographs and sculpture.
