Ali McCaw has been working with art co-ordinator Sue Cawood and pupils and staff at Victoria Infant and Nursery School in Workington for the last six years.
The first project was across the school creating textile panels for the learning support room. Following that initial collaboration, funds were raised to work with children with educational needs to develop speaking and listening skills. The school has hosted the artist mentoring scheme with Cumbria Arts in Education and Ali and Sue have also been involved with the training for Artsmark Awards.
Currently they are developing an environment project, exploring the transition from infant to junior school with Creative Partnerships Cumbria. The relationship between the lead artist and the school is centred on developing the creative arts across the school and in offering opportunities for all the children and being inclusive for both staff and parents.
