Professional Development Programme 2010-11

Creative Approaches to Literacy through Story Telling and Drama

Choose from 24th January 2011, CREA, Penrith
or 28th January 2011, Lanternhouse, Ulverston

This one day course will share learning derived through recent Creative Partnerships programmes, where Storytelling and Drama techniques have been successfully used to raise engagement and attainment in Literacy. The course will be led by Ian Douglas, Artistic Director of Storytree and aims to explore how simple, practical storytelling, story making and drama techniques can be effectively used in the classroom.

Target Audience: Primary teachers, Primary Head teachers and subject leaders, all current and former Creative Partnerships Schools

Price: £140.00 per day

Exploring Creative Thinking and Learning

Course A: 25th January and 15th March 2011, CREA, Penrith
Course B: 27th January and 17th March 2011, Artgene, Barrow

This two day practical course will explore what creative thinking and learning is and what it can look like in the primary classroom. Experienced facilitators will help participants to develop confidence in relation to creativity and risk taking.

Target audience: Primary teachers, Primary Head teachers and subject leaders, all current and former Creative Partnerships (Primary) Schools

Price: £280 per course

Creative Teaching - Independent Learning

Course A 18th January and: 8th March 2011, Lanternhouse, Ulverston
Course B 20th January and 10th March 2011, CREA, Penrith

The aim of this two day course is to promote pupil independence by increasing understanding of the relationship between creativity and independent learning. Participants will have the opportunity to develop the skills to structure and facilitate independent learning with their pupils. This course is particularly aimed at secondary school staff.

Target audience: Secondary Teachers, SLT and subject leaders

Price: £280 per 2 day course

Mantle of the Expert: an introduction to dramatic based inquiry

During the spring term 2011 experienced Mantle of the Expert trainers will lead a two day course as a series of practice-based workshops that explore all the fundamental skills of drama, planning and teaching needed to teach Mantle of the Expert successfully in the classroom. The course will be suitable for both complete beginners and those who have already tried Mantle techniques and want to find out more.
