Northern Edge

What: Northern Edge is a consortium of 16 northern universities, led by the University of Salford, which works with the creative and cultural industries to harness and develop expertise in teaching, learning and research in areas such as journalism, the visual arts and music.

Where: Supported by the three northern regional development agencies, Northern Edge seeks to nurture creative talent in the north. 

For: Any self-employed freelancer and those working in the creative and cultural industries in the north of England can take part in projects.  The initiative covers the following eight creative sectors: arts and cultural management, contemporary visual arts, design and fashion, digital content, film and broadcast, heritage, journalism and music and performance.
