What were the aims of your project?Newlaithes Junior School photography project
-To bring all pupils, parents and friends of the school together in a photography project
-To motivate and inspire all involved by giving them the opportunity to develop skills and encourage them to take a pride in their environment.
-To raise the profile of art (through the medium of photography) and promote its applications across the curriculum.

What did you do?
Four classes each spent 3 days working with the artist.
Day one – Introduction to project
What makes a good photo – study of artists’ work and children’s work.
Using and experimenting with cameras around school.

Day two - Classes visited Morton area or Carlisle city centre.
Each group had a digital camera and two disposable
cameras (black and white and colour).

Day three – Experience of dark room in school using own
black and white images.

What were the successes of the project?
The involvement and enthusiasm of all 130 children, staff and everyone connected with school. The work produced is of outstanding quality and the school can now look forward to future projects.

What were the challenges?
Number of children involved.

What do you know now that you wish you knew at the start of the project?
Allowing more budget and time for display.
The large amount of admin time that was and is still being created by project. The time and support required of office staff to purchase and deal with budget requirements.
